Properties of Modal, Tencel and Bamboo Fiber Fabrics

The characteristics of Tencel fabric

Tencel is a pure natural regenerated fiber, developed by British Acordis company with 100 percent natural wood pulp extracted from eucalyptus as raw material. It is called "the fiber dream of the 21st century". Its characteristics: softer feel than silk; better moisture absorption than cotton; light and easy to wash and dry.

"Tencel" is the Chinese transliteration of the English word "Tencel", but in Chinese newspapers and magazines, it is generally called "tence" directly. Tencel is a new creature. The word Tencel is not on the "New English-Chinese Dictionary" (supplement) published by Shanghai Translation Publishing House in 1993 and "English-Chinese Textile Industry Vocabulary" (continued and bound edition) published by China Textile Publishing House in 1995. Internationally, the popularity of Tencel began in the early 1990s, and in China, it began to develop in the second half of the 1990s, and became popular in the domestic market in the late 1990s.

Tencel is a commodity of Iyocell fiber (Iyocell is cellulose fiber obtained by organic solvent spinning method, and its genus name is determined by the International Bureau of Man-made and Synthetic Fiber Standards). Tencel is produced and patented by Courtualds, a British company. Therefore, only the Iyocell fibers produced by the Kaoru Ceramics Company can be called Tencel. Likewise, only products containing Tencel approved by the company may use the name Tencel or have a Tencel tag.

Tencel is high strength and can be used as an industrial fiber, it also has the comfort of cotton, the feel of silk and good drape. It is the only new type of fiber in the world that integrates the advantages of synthetic fiber and natural fiber. As soon as Tencel appeared, it attracted countless fabric dealers and apparel manufacturers who paid attention to the development of new fabrics, and it has become a very frequently used fiber name recently. Tencel causes little pollution to the environment in the production process, so it is also called "green fiber of the 21st century".

Currently Tencel has the following specifications:

Fineness: 1.4dex, 1.7dex, 2.4dex, 3.3dex

Average length: 38mm 51mm (suitable for cotton spinning, medium and long spinning) 60mm 80mm (suitable for wool spinning system)

There are two types of Tencel: one is the standard type (G100), which is fibrillated tencel, and the other is the A100 type, which is called non-fibrillated tencel.

Silk-like feel and good drape. The characteristics of modal fabrics

The raw material of modal fiber is produced in European bushes. It is made by special spinning process after making thumb slurry. It is a kind of cellulose fiber, so it belongs to cellulose fiber like cotton, and it is a pure natural fiber.

Modal products are mostly used in the production of underwear because of their good softness and excellent hygroscopicity but poor fabric stiffness. Modal knitted fabrics are mainly used to make underwear. However, modal has the characteristics of silvery white luster, excellent dyeability and bright color after dyeing, which is enough to make it suitable for outerwear. Because of this, modal has increasingly become a material for outerwear and its upholstery.

In order to improve the shortcoming of poor stiffness of modal products, modal can be blended with other fibers, and good results can be achieved. JM/C (50/50) can make up for this shortcoming. The more you wash, the brighter it becomes.

The strength of modal is close to the strength of polyester (35cn/tec), the wet strength is slightly lower than that of cotton, it is soft and smooth, with a silky feel, and the wet elongation is small. Its wet elongation is similar to that of cotton, but smaller than that of viscose; its washing shrinkage rate is lower, its good moisture absorption capacity is 50 percent higher than that of cotton, and its moisture absorption speed is extremely fast. The dyeing characteristics of modal fiber, its absorption rate of pigment is faster than that of combed cotton, and the absorption rate is high, the color is bright after dyeing, and the air permeability is good.

Fine denier modal fibers meet the requirements of the ECO-TEX standard, are physiologically harmless and are biodegradable. It has particular advantages for textiles in direct contact with the body, and the fine denier fibers give knitted fabrics comfortable wearing properties, soft hand, flowing drape, attractive luster and high hygroscopicity.

Because of this, many warp and weft knitting mills have begun to use this fiber as a raw material for daywear and sleepwear, sportswear and casual wear, as well as for lace. Calcium fabric has a particularly ideal effect when used with its close-fitting clothing, so that your skin can always keep dry and comfortable. Even after washing, it can still maintain a absorbent and soft feeling, which is all due to the smoothness of the surface of the material. surface, avoiding the entanglement of fibers in the laundry during the washing process.

Characteristics of bamboo fiber fabrics

The raw material of bamboo fiber yarn is selected from southern high-quality wild bamboo fiber, and the short-thread yarn produced by bamboo pulp fiber is a green product. The unique style of the fiber: abrasion resistance, no fuzz, high moisture absorption, quick drying, high air permeability, good drape, smooth hand feel The blended fabric woven with this yarn makes the cotton fiber more supple and improves the appearance of the fabric.

Modal can also reflect its weavability in the weaving process of woven fabrics, and can also be interwoven with other fiber yarns to form various fabrics. Modal products have this broad development prospect in modern clothing.

Modal fibers mainly have the following main characteristics:

1. The raw material of Modal fiber comes from natural wood, which can be degraded naturally after use.

2. The fineness of Modal fiber is 1dtex, while the fineness of cotton fiber is 1.5"2.5tex, and the fineness of silk is 1.3dtex.

3. Modal fiber is soft, bright and clean, bright in color, especially smooth in the hand of the fabric, bright on the cloth surface, better in drapability than existing cotton, polyester and rayon, with silk-like luster and feel, it is a natural Mercerized fabric.

4. Modal fiber has the strength and toughness of synthetic fiber, with a dry strength of 35.6cn and a wet strength of 25.3cn. The strength is higher than that of pure cotton and polyester-cotton, which reduces the phenomenon of broken ends during processing.

5.Modal fiber has 50 percent higher moisture absorption capacity than cotton fiber, which keeps Modal fiber fabric dry and breathable. It is an ideal close-fitting fabric and health care clothing product, which is beneficial to the victory cycle and health of the human body.

6. Compared with cotton fiber, Modal fiber has good morphological and dimensional stability, and the fabric has natural wrinkle resistance and non-iron resistance, making it more convenient and natural to wear.

7. Modal fiber has good dyeing performance and remains bright as new after multiple washings, and it absorbs moisture thoroughly and has good color fastness. Compared with pure cotton, it is more comfortable to wear and does not have the shortcomings of pure cotton clothing that is easy to fade and yellow. .

Therefore, the fabric has bright colors and stable wearing performance. After 25 times of washing with cotton fabric, the hand will feel harder and harder. The Modal fiber fabric is just the opposite. The more you wash it, the softer it becomes. It is greasy, plump and silky soft. It is mildew-proof, moth-proof and antibacterial. Excellent dyeing performance, bright luster, and good natural antibacterial effect and environmental protection, conform to the trend of modern people's pursuit of health and comfort.

In particular, the blending of bamboo fibers with other types of fibers in a specific ratio can not only reflect the performance of other fibers, but also give full play to the characteristics of bamboo fibers, bringing new characteristics to knitted fabrics. Pure spun and blended yarns (blended with Tencel, Modal, sweat-wicking polyester, negative oxygen ion polyester, corn fiber, cotton, acrylic and other fibers in different proportions) are the preferred fabrics for knitted close-fitting textiles. In trendy fashion, bamboo fiber fabrics are more effective for spring and summer clothing.
